Invisible Lightness draws inspiration from ancient tabernacles: portable temples made of ropes and bronze elements that accompanied nomadic peoples. This work revisits two of their fundamental principles: the symbolic verticality that connects the earthly with the celestial, and the condition of portability. Suspended from a single anchoring point, the sculptures can be rolled up, moved, and reassembled anywhere, as if part of a ritual. The bronze of sacred constructions is worked here into thin lines, recalling the sculptures of Fausto Melotti — yet pushed toward an even more ethereal dimension through the incorporation of light: a material that can be switched off, fade away, and reappear.

Each component of the work is simultaneously part of a functional electrical circuit and of a sculptural composition. There are no decorative elements: light travels through the structure as visible energy, while copper wires, connections, and counterweights make the presence of gravity explicit. The work is thus constructed as a system of tensions between physical and perceptual forces.

This project forms part of an ongoing doctoral research investigation centered on the line of light as a vector of connection between the visible and the invisible, and enters into dialogue with references such as Gaudí’s inverted structural models, used to study the action of gravity on architectural forms.
