The Wall of Time is an installation specifically created for the exhibition at Centro Cultural Gabriela Mistral (GAM) that reflects upon possible ways of approaching our relationship with the flow of time.
The work is conceived as a stratigraphy in which different themes overlap: the wall as a condensation that obstructs vision; the symbolic attempt to create windows through which to explore beyond; the real possibility of passing through matter in order to discover what remains hidden.
Across a stucco wall whose weight and fragility remain ambiguous, sculpted panels, bas-reliefs, and material paintings have been arranged, varying in appearance, density, opacity, and weight. Each work is an attempt to dematerialize the wall — or, in more abstract terms, to open fissures within the mental boundaries that prevent us from accepting the passage of time with wisdom.
In its installation, the work draws inspiration from the atlas of Aby Warburg: through free associations, images of different kinds are gathered and articulated together. In this way, a constellation of works emerges, employing construction materials to speak about fragility, artificial light to address the invisible, abstract forms to reveal the everyday, and figurative representations to suggest the inexplicable.
Ultimately, the installation seeks to place the viewer before their own spaces of openness.
